Using Pan and Zoom with Images in Photoshop Elements 9

When you zoom in on a Photoshop Elements document, scroll bars provide a means for panning the image — moving the image inside the window. You can also use the Hand tool to pan the image. Zoom in to an image and click the Hand tool. Click and drag the image around the window.
The Navigator panel affords you several different options for both zooming and panning an image.

• Choose Window→Navigator.

The Navigator panel opens as a floating panel in the Elements workspace.

• Drag the zoom slider in the Navigator panel.

The image preview in the Navigator panel stays fixed to show you the entire image. When you zoom in and out inside the panel, the corresponding zoom is applied to the active document.

• Place the cursor inside the image preview thumbnail and drag the rectangle.

The image window adjusts to display the area within the rectangle in the Navigator pane.

• (Optional) If you are using two monitors, drag the Navigator panel to your second monitor.

You can change zoom levels without having the Navigator panel obscure the background image.

If you want to zoom in or out of an image while the Hand tool is selected, hold down the Ctrl key (cmd key on the Mac), and the Hand tool temporarily changes to the Zoom In tool. Hold down Ctrl+Alt (cmd+Option on the Mac) to temporarily change the Hand tool to the Zoom Out tool.
